What areas of diversity do you see in your service-learning classroom and how is the teacher addressing them?

There are many different areas of diversity in which the Ms. Mitari addresses within her classroom. Some Aspects of diversity in this classroom are the students cultural backgrounds, learning styles and development. Ms. Mitari puts in alot of effort to ensure that she is a responsive and thorough teacher for when it comes to her students. During my observation in Ms. Mitari's classroom the students were very respectful among themselves and her as a teacher, regardless of whatever differences that they might have had.

Specific aspects of diversity within Ms Mitaris classroom fall into many different categories. While the majority of Ms. Mitaris students are white, there is still diversity within her classroom with students of varying cultural back grounds. About 7 out of 24 students have IEP plans where they have varying types of learning disabilities that has not been disclosed to me. There are also one or two students who are not native English speakers and need assistance at times for when it comes to instruction.

How is the teacher differentiating instruction for the diverse learners in her/his classroom

Ms. Mitari utilizes different tools and strategies in order to teach her diverse group of students. When I was observing her class, I can see that she was very committed in taking the time to work with each and everyone of her students. Technology has been a tremendous help and assistance to Ms. Mitari as at times Ms. Mitari has been successful with including every student for when it came to a certain instruction. Ms. Mitari has  a close communication with students parents which enables her to implement types of assignments and learning patterns that can be applied within the students' homes.

Group work has also been a strategy that Ms. Mitari has used for when it comes to teaching different assignments. While groups within classroom are at times completely randomized, the students are able to help eachother along the way as they have discussions and help from Ms. Mitari. There is a definite social aspect for when it comes to students working together in a group which is why I find to be so helpful. Despite whatever differences the students may have, they are able to work through them and learn the material.
