The decision to become a teacher came to me at a later age in my life. being raised by two parent who work in the medical field, I sot of convinced myself that that was where I am needing to be. But as I enrolled in a respiratory therapy program after high school, I realized that the science and anatomy aren't my strong suits and so I struggled greatly while trying to go these classes for a degree I knew I didn't want. And so I made the switch, realizing that while I love to help people there other ways in which they can be helped. So I decided to see if teaching would be the right course for me and after I have taken this class I can say that for a fact, I am even more driven to become a teacher.
The service learning really helped me understand the environment of a classroom and how to work with students. When I came into the class I was a little bit nervous about meeting my teacher and the students but my stresses were immediately put down as the entirety of the classroom greeted me with so much kindness and hospitality. Ms. Mitari was a great help in answering all of my questions and gave a lot of insight on what it takes to be a teacher. Ms. Mitari explained to me that one of the important aspects to keep in my is to always stay organized. Organization helped Ms. Mitari in keeping her lesson plans together and anticipate for any problems that they might come across in the future. Through what I have observed through Ms. Mitari, I can say that the service learning placement was a great opportunity to see if this is the right career path for me.
The service Learning Placement has greatly influence my decision. I have decided to continue in this path as I hope to one day become a High School English Teacher. I'd like to try to hone in my writing abilities so I hope to take classes in the future that go over creative and literary writing. I'd like to be able to create and understand a story so that I might be able to pass on this skill to my students. I would want to create an environment within my classroom where students can freely express themselves so I plan to do everything I can to make that viable.
